Nolan Arenado Hits Walk-Off Home Run to Complete the Cycle (Giuseppe)

Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado became the fourth player of the 2017 season to hit for the cycle and he did so in a dramatic fashion on Fathers Day. Arenado joined Wil Myers, Carlos Gomez, and Trea Turner as the only players to hit for the cycle in 2017 thus far.

In a game between the Colorado Rockies and the San Fransisco Giants, Nolan Arenado came up in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and third with the Rockies losing 5-4. He completed the hardest part of the cycle in the first inning hitting a triple and in his second at bat he hit a single. In his third at-bat, he hit a double and in his fourth, he struck out on four pitches. Arenado connected with a 91 MPH fastball on the inside part of the plate from Mark Melancon in his fifth at bat and the rest is history.

Arenado is the 308th player to hit for the cycle and just the sixth player to finish the cycle with a walk-off home run. The only players to ever do so are as follows:

  • Ken Boyer, Sept. 14, 1961
  • Cesar Tovar, Sept. 19, 1972
  • George Brett, May 28, 1979
  • Dwight Evans, June 28, 1984
  • Carlos Gonzalez, July 31, 2010
  • Nolan Arenado, June 18, 2017

The walk-off home run propelled the Rockies to their 46th victory of the season putting their season record at 46-26.

In 2017 Nolan Arenado has been hitting a slash line of .299/.348/.566 with 25 doubles, 3 triples, 15 homers and 55 RBI along with a 3.2 War and .995 fielding percentage and 27 defensive runs saved. If the Rockies keep on rolling like they have been, and Nolan Arenado continues to fill up the stat sheets than there could be an NL MVP and if he continues to lead the team the way he has, he may be seeing a World Series MVP.

If the Rockies keep on rolling like they have been, and Nolan Arenado continues to fill up the stat sheets than there could be an NL MVP Award in his future and if he continues to lead the team the way he has, he may be seeing a World Series MVP Award in his trophy case.
